So you have covered the fact that the RFDuino bootloader isn't open source, but I am not so much interested in using the bootloader.  I would like to use the Arduino environment to compile code that is linked against libRFDuino.a and then put that code on a generic nRF51822 device.

Is this possible?

I notice that RFDuino linker script puts the app code at a nonstandard location (at least for the S110 SoftDevice), but I presume that is to accommodate the RFduino bootloader.  This seems like an easier approach, and wouldn't require opening the bootloader code.
