rfduino + 74hc595
« on: October 05, 2016, 04:16:15 PM »
Hello,

I've gotten a set of rfduino's from a friend and am trying to see if i can do something with them. One of the things i'd like to use them for is controlling a few rgb status leds over bluetooth.
Seeing that i need to control 5 of them i'd use 2 74hc595's. However, the leds are 3+volt, so i'd like to feed the 595's 5V. My question is if this will be a problem with the gpio's of the rfduino? As it seems to be 3v? If it would be going into the adruino i'd say no, but as it's going from the arduino to the other chips i'm not sure. Sorry if it's a dumb question, but i'm just getting into electronics.

Thanks!!

Hi

You should be ok the 74HC595 has a supply variance of 2v to 6v so it should change on 3.3v high or < 1.5v low
