Hi Arnaud,

  Shortening the pins sounds a bit hardcore. Usb->Usb extension cable worked for me (same laptop)

I had to choose between buying an extension cable or shortening pins. I chose the less expensive way :)

I had the same problem, but I just propped the back of my MacBook up with a stack of business cards and it fits perfectly; it also doubles as some extra ventilation.
