Making two RFDuinos talk to each other
« on: December 21, 2013, 12:35:04 PM »
Would it be possible to make two RFDuinos talk to each other?
I have found no suitable examples for this.

It's not possible AFAIK.

From the nRF51822 web page https://www.nordicsemi.com/eng/Products/Bluetooth-R-low-energy/nRF51822

Quote
S110    Bluetooth low energy peripheral/broadcaster role protocol stack

And the nRF51822 (The heart in RFduino) uses the S110 BLE stack.

To make two BLE devices to talk you have to have one BLE device withe the role "Master" and another with the role "Peripheral".

I have to correct my self.

It's possible with the nRF51822 to switch the S110 stack to S120.

Quote
S120    Bluetooth low energy 8-link central/observer role protocol stack

But that is outside the scoop for the current implementation of RFduino, maybee another RFduino ver2 is capable to do it, lets wait and see what the RFduino team can cook together next year.

Thank you for the answer.

So principle it is possible as the SoftDevice 120 is downloadable (from here https://www.nordicsemi.com/eng/Products/Bluetooth-R-low-energy/nRF51822#Downloads) the problem is that it is not "wrapped" to be available in the Arduino IDE.

It would be really cool if someone could do it, it would allow making real sensor networks with RFDuino.

I hope guys from RFDuino will work on this.

Hi dariosalvi,

Currently, we are working on radio to radoi communication. We will also be talking about low level BLE access later next month.

That's a very interesting piece of news, radio to radio would open up a whole set of interesting applications.
Keep us informed and good work!
