BLE and Low Level Development / SimbleeCom vs NRF Open Mesh vs BLE mesh
« on: December 01, 2016, 12:37:40 PM »
While BLE Mesh is about to debut soon (not dependent on Bluetooth Core 5.0) , both SimbleeCom and NRF Open Mesh are supporting unlimited of devices.
NRF Open Mesh is considered connection-less, theoretical limit is perhaps 500 devices. Latency is based on latency per hop you set.
SimbleeCom: unlimited connection, 3ms latency.

Developer's questions:
1. Which is more superior e.g. maximum connection, latency by comparison, development time? Or why should one consider SimbleeCom vs the others?
2. Develop now or wait for official Bluetooth Mesh? I supposed how soon your customer wants it.
3. Based on SimbleeCom & NRF Open Mesh, how is the compatibility and migration toward official Bluetooth Mesh? I supposed the consideration is interoperability with upcoming Bluetooth Mesh products if a product choose to do so. Sometimes, you wonder just OTA DFU will help to upgrade to support that. Btw, Bluetooth mesh is meant to support 4.0 as well.

Just for discussion. Of course, those who have experienced Open Mesh and SimbleeCom development can tell more about the differences.

Getting Started / Platform IO: Web IDE with OTA
« on: November 24, 2016, 01:43:15 PM »
Platform IO provides a web IDE for RFduino development. It is said to provide OTA update as well. I haven't tested it out. It is said the compilation time is much faster than Arduino IDE.

Interesting Uses & Applications / Blynk
« on: November 24, 2016, 01:24:03 PM »
If you are spending time developing SimbleeForMobile native UI or Evothings UI, you might find that Blynk is even more efficient than that. For very simple UI, you can achieve that like it said ~5 mins. It is available free in both Android and IOS. If you need more UI, you need to pay in-app store to do that. And, if you publish your app into app store by paying another price, you can roll into both IOS and Andriod very quickly.

The limitation would only be the UI they provided. If you need very complicated UI, then you would go back to those two that I mentioned. But for very rapid development for a proof of concept, this fits in well.

Is Simblee Bluetooth range certified as Class 1 ~100m? Typical design is like Class 2 ~10m. The datasheet mentioned about "long range" without actual data. And the Simblee video shows a customer mentioned about 100 feet (30m) away??

Also, Simblee promotional video shows a 3ms second latency connections to 300 BLE devices? Really??

BLE and Low Level Development / Simblee soft device Nordic SDK

What is the Simblee soft device ? S130? What are the header files?

iOS / SimbleeBLE vs SimbleeForMobile
« on: October 17, 2016, 03:52:53 PM »
I am trying to understand the difference of SimbleeBLE vs SimbleeForMobile.
Is my understanding below correct?

SimbleeForMobile.h :
-Use RFDigital Made IOS APP SimbleeForMobile
-UI programming in Arduino Sketch
-cross platform UI for IOS & Andriod
-Very rapid prototyping

-Customize own IOS App
-Access to more IOS UI and Phone IO capability : Camera etc..
-IOS device only and require IOS maintenance
-Examples: C:\Users\userxxx_000\AppData\Local\Arduino15\packages\Simblee\hardware\Simblee\1.0.0\iPhone Apps
-More development work because of compilation for both Xcode and Arduino Sketch.

Bugs / Volatile program memory - Lost the sketch program after power loss
« on: October 17, 2016, 11:38:06 AM »
It occurs to me that when my simblee is power off or unplug from USB power source after it is programmed with a new sketch program, the program disappears and not detectable by Simblee App. I have to keep my simblee plug on to my computer after it is programmed to keep it running.

I supposed the program memory to be non-volatile memory flash. Somehow, during power off, it wipes out the memory.

Tested the SimbleeForMobile - Color Wheel example project. The slider doesn't seem to update the text field and LED color sometimes. The slider position seems responsive.  The color wheel is quite responsive.
I am not sure if the slider service is broken in the firmware.
