Maximum number of connected Simblee devices
« on: November 15, 2016, 08:03:29 AM »
Hi,

We are working on a project where we plan to connect about 30 to 35 Simblees onto one pc. We would like to make a game where multiple players can physically play simultaneously. I am having a hard time finding answers online on the following questions.

How many Simblee's can we connect at once?
Would this be through BLE or the cloud? Or radio?
Should we use a special receiver other than a pc?

We also have an alternative to the Simblee (not ordered yet, and not sure if I should post it here), but we have the Simblee 6-piece project kit to work with now.

If I missed a thread, please direct me to it if you have seen any of these questions before.

Thanks in advance guys and gals!

Rohan, please refer to this Simblee video at the 4:05 time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHQObESzrzs&t=276s

You will find that Simblee can connect 100 devices with 3ms latency. Normal BLE will probably connect <8 devices. Using GZLL protocol will also likely be around 8 devices. This is one of the critical point why one would use Simblee compared to the other BLE. It uses the proprietary radio stack of SimbleeCom to do that. It should be able to use BLE and SimbleeCom together. I haven't tried that.

In the video, the phone seems to connect to 100 Simblee. This may possibly feasible with your PC. Is this based on mesh or star topology that I am not sure how it is done in software.

See here about using both BLE and COM:

Thank you both for your answers. Although not conclusive yet. We hope to find a solution on how to connect about 32 simblee devices. Is there a device that can manage more than 8 bluetooth connections at once and perhaps gather these to send a thread to a pc?
Thank you for the replies.

Rohan, Please refer to the RFdigital's demo. You can also send them to the cloud.

It would be nicer if they provided the sketches with explanation of how it works precisely, as well.

They might possibly release an example next year 2017. But not toward end of this year.

Thank you for all the replies. I think we will refrain from using the Simblee kit and go for better supported alternatives.
